1996 PEE WEE MINORS LOSE
HEARTBREAKER IN FINALS

The Jr. Falcons 1996 Pee Wee Minor Team, Champion of the Pee Wee Minor division of the New England Hockey League Regular Season, made it through the round robin playoffs having tied the second place Valley Warriors 1-1 in the first game, defeating the New Hampshire Monarchs 3-2 with 50 seconds left in that game, and defeating the Vermont Glades 5-3 to earn the right to be top team going in to the playoff finals on Sunday. In the finals the top two teams, the Jr. Falcons coached by Lincoln Flagg, Sean Provost and Stan Malecki, and the Valley Warriors, coached by Bob Carpenter, Bobby Sweeney and Steve Leach, did not disappoint the 200 fans that came to watch. The game was back and forth through all three periods with the Jr. Falcons battling back to take a 3 goal lead and then the Warriors tying it and going ahead by a goal 5-4 after two periods. But the Jr Falcons battled back to tie the score and send the game into overtime. As the overtime period began the Jr. Falcons had numerous opportunities to end it but could not put the puck in the net. So the game ended up tied after OT and went to the shootout where the Warriors ended up winning by a goal to clinch the playoff victory. Coach Lincoln Flagg praised his players and staff for a great game. "All of our guys played their hearts out but as anyone knows, anything can happen in a one game playoff final. This loss does not take away the tremendous accomplishments that this team achieved this season. How well they did is a testament to our coaching staff and especially my assistant coaches Sean Provost and Stan Malecki who ran things when I had to be with the Jr. team, as well as the motivated student/athletes who played hard every day. I am just so proud of these kids and I wish every one of them the best for their futures."

JUNIOR FALCONS YOUTH TEAMS WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS

The New England Junior Falcons Squirt Minor (1998 birth year) and Bantam Major (1993 birth year) Teams both won the 2008 New England Hockey League championships this past weekend.

The Squirt Minor team, coached by Barry Tabb, Stan Ryczek and Bob Peritz ended up winning the League Championship with a record of 16 wins, 2 loses, and 2 ties and an overall record of 30-6-3. They met a very tough Nashua New Hampshire Team in the League Playoff Championship final game and came out a 3-1 winner after having been down 1-0 through two periods. When asked about his 98 team Jr. Falcons General Manager Lincoln Flagg had this to say; "Barry, Stan, and Bob have done just a great job of putting together a very talented team and then working hard all season to further their development, improve their skill levels and bring about a better understanding of how to play the game at a very high level. What we are seeing today is the future of hockey and the future of the Jr. Falcons program. These players have worked hard and learned what it takes to be successful both on and off the ice. Their work in the classroom is honor-roll level and it translates to what they do on the ice. We are very proud of all of our teams and players and always enjoy watching them achieve success."

The Bantam Major Team (1993’s) finished a tight race for the League Championship but ended up in third place with a record of 17 wins, 6 loses and 3 ties behind the Vermont Glades and Seacoast Spartans. The Bantam Major overall record was 35-14-5 for the season, and they won both the Jr. Pic’s Thanksgivingday Classic Hockey Tournament and the MassConn Presidents Day Tournament. In the playoff championship the Jr. Falcons made the finals to face the Vermont Glades who had a 21-3-2 league record. The Jr. Falcons and Glades battled all season long in great games so a tight final game was expected and it did not disappoint anyone who was there. Through 2 periods it was a 0-0 tie and both teams had great chances with the Jr. Falcons goaltender Christian O’ Shea making some spectacular stops. O’Shea was named the game MVP after the games and was presented with the game puck. With 2:35 left in the game, and the score tied 0-0, the Jr. Falcons were called for a penalty and things did not look good. But Jr. Falcons forward penalty Killers Rob Baillargeon and Jim Bernardo went on the attack and scored short handed to give the Jr. Falcons a 1-0 lead. The Falcons would cap things off scoring in the empty net with 14 seconds left in the game to secure the Championship. Bantam Major Coach Lincoln Flagg commented on the game; "I am just so proud of this team and these players and coaches. I give a lot of credit to coaches Joe Rotondo, Bob Baillargeon and Jeff Sullivan for doing such a great job while I had to be with our Junior A team at times throughout the season. But it was the players’ dedication to finding out how good they could become as students, hockey players and people that allowed them the opportunity to win. Their hard work, their ability to perform under pressure situations, and their desire to be successful were key factors in winning this Championship. You are going to be reading about some of these Bantam Major Players in the future. They have the ability to go very far in this sport."

The Pee Wee Championship playoffs will take place in two weeks for the Jr. falcons Pee Wee players.

Bantam Majors Celebrate League Championship

JUNIOR FALCONS TEAMS WIN
MASSCONN PRESIDENTS DAY TOURNAMENT

The New England Junior Falcons Squirt Minor (98) team, Pee Wee Minor (96) team, Pee Wee Major (95) team and Bantam Major (93) team participated in the MassConn Presidents Day Hockey Classic Tournament over Presidents Day weekend. The Pee Wee Minor, Pee Wee Major and Bantam Major Teams won their Championships while the Squirt Minor team, who participated in the Squirt Major (97) Division, ended up making it to the Semi-finals before bowing to the (97) New Jersey Rockets. Jr. Falcons General Manager Lincoln Flagg was asked about the success of the teams in the Tourney and had this to say; "Obviously as an organization we are doing something right. When you have the success of all four teams playing the high level of competition that Jim Callahan was able to bring into this Tournament and finding success at every level, that is a reflection on the coaches, players, player’s families and philosophy of the Jr. Falcons organization. We will continue to produce players now and in the future, that will understand life success principles, place a strong emphasis on academics, and demonstrate strong character attributes. These players will follow those that have come through the organization before them and have gone on to become Captains of their respective teams like Bill Guerin (NY Islanders) Chris Clark (Washington Caps) and Dave MacDonald (Harvard) who are all Captains this season. We look forward to working with those players and their families that understand what this program is about and the success of all of those players that have had the opportunity to take advantage of this organization and the teachings of Gary Dineen. "

Jr. Falcons Bantam Majors Win Pic’s Thanksgiving Tourney

The New England Jr. Falcons went undefeated this weekend at the Pic’s Thanksgiving Hockey Tournament. After beating the Ct. Riptide 4-2 the Falcons played to a 1-1 tie against Suffolk PAL, whose goaltender made 44 saves, some spectacular. In game three the Jr. Falcons played the host team, the Jr. Pic’s and defeated them 6-1 before moving on to play a night game against the Valley Junior Warriors which ended in a 3-3 tie. As the hockey Gods would have it, the Jr. Falcons came back in the Semi finals against the same Valley Jr. Warriors team and found a way to get the job done beating them 4-2 to move into the finals against the Green Mountain Glades from Burlington, VT., who also had an unblemished record going into the final game. And what a game it was. After three hard fought periods of hockey the teams remained tied 1-1 so to overtime it went. It took four overtime periods before Jim Bernardo found Chris Santaniello who scored the game winner and secured the tourney victory for the Jr. Falcons.

Jr. Falcons Pee Wee Minor Team Wins Inaugural Classic

The Jr. Falcons Pee Wee Minor 1996 Team hosted the first Thanksgiving Holiday Classic at the Enfield Twin Rinks. They opened up against the very tough Junior Bruins team with a 5-4 win. In game two the Jr. Falcons faced off against the Central Mass Outlaws defeating them 8-3 before meeting the Westchester Express from Brewster, NY. After three up and down periods the final outcome was a 3-3 tie. On Sunday the Jr. Falcons had to go up against the Express again in the finals and the Express went out to a determined 3-0 lead. But the young Falcons battled back and tied the game late in the third period to force it into overtime. In overtime the Jr. Falcons hit the cross bar but that was as close as anyone came to winning the game. It all came down to a shootout and after four shooters from each team went with no one scoring, one half of the Jr. Falcons one two goaltending punch, goaltender Michael Sweeney, came up big stopping Westchester’s top scorer. Barrett Rogoleski, the other half of the Jr. Falcons goaltending duo, played outstanding the first half of the game as each goaltender plays half a game. Then it was the Jr. Falcons Andy Provost’s turn and he beat the Express goaltender to win the game and Tourney for the 96 Falcons. Congratulations to the 1996 players and a tremendous thank you to all of the 1996 parents who made this event a fist class tourney and one that will expand next season.
