Corrigan named to All-Conference Team

The Jr. B Falcons proud members of the Empire Junior Hockey League are happy to announce Jr. B team member John Corrigan of Wethersfield,CT is a 2007-08 Empire Junior League 2nd Team All-Conference selection. Head Coach Patrick Tabb States " John became a dominate player in our league as the season progressed. His combination of size and skill make him a potential division I college hockey player." Corrigan finished league play with 39 games played scoring 31 goals with 19 helpers for a 50 point season. John is the son of Jim & Susan Corrigan. Coach Tabb states, " John's biggest of those 31 goals came at home in overtime in a 5-4 ot victory over league champ Jr.Bruins, big time players step up in big time moments." " I had a great group of guys this season who grew very quickly into a TEAM, they pushed each other every single day, competing to make each other better." As a result the team finished league play with a 22-16-5 record good for second in the division and captured a playoff berth. Also mentioned on the final ballot which was voted on by the coaches in the league were Joe Budnick for league MVP who finished with 36games 17 goals 16 assists 33 points. Receiving nominations for offensive player of the year Dan Miressi finished with 43 games 27 goals 29 assists 56 points. On the final ballot for all-conference team were Matt Lynch 43games 7 goals 12 assists 19 points, Steve Baldwin 41 games 2 goals 15 assists 17 points, and Tom Ellis 41 games 5 goals 19 assists 24 points. " We had a good season results wise, and a great season in regards to our ultimate goal of player development at the Jr.B level. Many of the guys on this seasons roster will be taking the next step to college and Jr.A hockey." Coach Tabb


JUNIOR ‘A’ FALCONS SPLIT THE WEEKEND

The New England Falcons Junior ‘A’ hockey team opened the weekend in Bridgewater to face the 2nd place Bandits. It was an up and down first period with the Bandits taking a 3-2 lead into the locker room. The Falcons had goals from Rem Vanderbeek and Dustin Rider with Kevin Czepiel, Anthony Yelovich, and Pat Styckiewicz getting assists. The second period saw both team score on the Power Play with Benni Schennach getting the Jr. Falcons goal from Czepiel and Yelovich but the Bandits took a 4-3 lead into the locker room. The third period was all Bandits who put the Jr. Falcons away with a two goal output and a 6-3 win.

On Sunday the Jr. Falcons traveled home to face of against the New England Huskies. The Falcons were slow coming out in the first period and the Huskies took a quick 3-0 lead. The Huskies added to their lead in the second to make it 4-0 before Dan Mauriello scored on the Power Play from Benni Schennach and Evan Chlanda. But the Huskies struck back to regain their 4 goal lead making it 5-1 and it looked like the Falcons could be facing a loss. But with 51 seconds left in the 2nd period, Evan Chlanda took a pass from Kevin Czepiel and Anthony Yelovich and with a tremendous individual effort walked between the Huskies defense and scored to make it 5-2 after two. This gave the Falcons new life and they came out in the third and stormed the Huskies net scoring 4 unanswered goals. Dustin Rider started it off scoring from the slot on assists from Chris Wille and Pat Styckiewicz. Then Tom Carroll made it 5-4 on a booming shot form the point. Mike Kazelouskas and Dan mauriello were credited with assists. Evan Chlanda tied the game on a Power play goal with 3:03 left in the game from Rob Etts an Kevin Czepiel. The with 1:19 left in the game Jason Adams scored the game winner from Yelovich and Czepiel to give the Jr. Falcons a 6-5 win. The Falcons have begun their second half run for the play offs and are 10 points out of fourth place with games in hand. They play home next Saturday, January 19, against the Division leading New Jersey Hitmen and on Sunday try to get revenge as the Bridgewater Bandits come into town at 1:00pm.

 



JUNIOR ‘A’ FALCONS TAKE CHAMPIONSHIP AT JOSHUA WEEKS TOURNEY AT TABOR ACADEMY

The New England Junior Falcons, having gone 5-1-2 in December and coming off a 7-6 win over Deerfield Academy before their Holiday break, came into Tabor Academy for the Joshua Weeks Tourney and took home a Championship Trophy beating St. Sebastians Prep 6-1 in the finals. The Jr. Falcons Jr. ‘A’ Team started the Tourney beating the Hill School 4-1. Defenseman Tom Carroll had a goal and assist as did Mike Kaselouskas and Kevin Czepiel. Evan Chlanda added two assists and Goaltender Josh Watson got the win over his Alma Mater.

In Game two the Jr. Falcons met the always tough Milton Academy but got the better of them winning 3-2 with Jason Adams netting the game winner. Jr. Falcons Goaltender Jake Williams got the Star of the game stopping many point blank shots to preserve the win.

In the final it was all Jr. Falcons from the drop of the puck. Mike Cauley got the scoring started with assists from Kevin Czepiel and Jason Adams. Dustin Rider, Evan Chlanda, Patrick Styckiewicz, Kevin Czepiel and Jason Adams had the other Jr. Falcons goals. Czepiel ended up with a goal and two assists in the game.

The Jr. Falcons Jr. ‘A’ and Jr. ‘B’ Teams will participate this weekend in the EJHL Junior Showcase in Marlboro, MA. The Falcons Jr. B Team holds third place in their division in the very tough Empire Jr. Hockey league with 4 games in hand on both 1st place New Hampshire and second place Fitchburg.
